FAQ's
Does Concrete Stain?
Yes, while we do use a penetrating sealer on our concrete countertops, acids from vinegar, lemon juice or harsh cleaning products can etch the concrete, much like with natural stones. However, with time the concrete takes on a rich patina, which gives it great character.
Does Concrete Crack?
Sometimes, this is inherent characteristic of the material, and occasionally hairline cracks can form. However, these cracks are not structural, and are very uncommon. Our proprietary mix designs are engineered to reduce shrinkage and increase strength. The resulting product is a concrete that is nearly 4 times the strength of your common sidewalk.
How do Earth Elements Countertops compare with the price of Granite?
Honestly, this is not a fair comparison. Concrete is a high-end material; the price is determined by the complexity of the forms, the bold making process and the desired finish. The process is a very labor intensive one. Earth Elements counters are priced for the individual, unique and sculptural forms that bring life to your home, no a commodity product priced by the foot. The pieces are priced as a one of a kind, commissioned pieces of artwork, we believe that craftsmanship through mechanization might lead to lower prices, but not inspired work.
Do you pour On-site or in a shop?
Both. Depending on the desired size and shape of the piece. Some clients are looking for a massive monolithic piece to serve as the focal point for their kitchen/living space. Something of this nature would have to be constructed on-site, preferably during the early stages of renovation. While others may just be looking to update their home with a sleek new replacement for their old Formica tops. This would be done in our shop, to minimize the installation time and impact on the client.
Can anything be done with a dirty old slab floor?
Yes! Earth Element Studio is an official SUPERFLOOR installer. Through this advanced diamond grinding and polishing process we can take the worst looking slab floors and make them shine. It doesn't matter if they had vinyl, tile or even carpet. During the polishing process these floors can be stained with any of our 11 colors. This is great for garages, basements, kitchens and baths.
